Everyone's Responsibilities:
  • Commit to the goals of the team
  • Fulfill individual assignments
  • Avoid interpersonal conflicts
  • Encourage full participation
  • Keep discussion on track

Responsibilities of Team Members

Fill Positive Roles.

TASK ROLES - contribute to reaching the team's goal

    • Information/opinion giver - offers facts and opinions; relates own experiences that are relevant to the task.
    • Information seeker - asks for relevant facts, opinions, or ideas.
    • Expediter - helps group stick to its agenda, proposes new ideas for solving the problem, suggests a plan of attack, articulates goals often.
    • Analyzer - examines the reasoning of various participants.

MAINTENANCE ROLES - Contributes to how well team members interact.

    • Supporter - rewards valuable contributions.
    • Harmonizer - brings the team together by trying to resolve conflicts.
    • Gatekeeper - keeps communication channels open by encouraging every member to participate.
Avoid Negative Roles. Aggressor- criticizes almost everything or blames others when things get rough. Joker - disrupts by making jokes at inappropriate times, impeding the team's progress. Withdrawer- refuses to participate and be part of the team.
